When the volcano erupted and filled the city with ash it near perfectly preserved the bodies of Pompeiis inhabitants. It was common in those days for the rich to eat their food only to throw it up again to make room for more. So socially acceptable it was that vommitoriams were constructed to feed this unusual habit. Know by the historians they used this to identify the class of the bodies they found. To have serious damage to the teeth was to be categorised as wealthy because the stomach acids would slowly disintegrate their teeth each time they decided to rid the belly of a meal. Therefore any bodies with bad teeth were placed in the wealthy class and the good teeth in the poor.
Pompeii was a main port during its glory days and as such people from all over the world came here to trade and well explore the local culture. Many of the newly arrived tourists did not know the local language and locals to theirs. Pictures were put up of the local ladies “capabilities” so the language barrier could be torn down.
More ruins and ancient cities to be explored.
